Three Ingredient Dessert: Baked Bananas with Honey & Cinnamon

We all know and love whipped banana “ice cream”, but how about a warm banana dessert? My friends, using just 3 ingredients, you can have another delicious dessert without the guilt!

First, let’s take a look at one of my favorite fruits: the banana.DSC_0611 (1280x853)

What’s to love about bananas?

  • very good source of potassium (helps with muscle cramps!)
  • good source of Vitamins B6, C, and manganese
  • help maintain normal blood pressure
  • low in sodium

So what are the three ingredients necessary to make this easy dessert? Banana, cinnamon, and honey.fs

1. Peel the banana, slice it in half, and place in an oven-safe dish.

4. Cover and place in oven that has been preheated to 400*. Bake for 15-20 minutes, depending on desired softness.DSC_0634 (1280x853) 

Of course you’re totally welcome to stop here and enjoy your warm, caramelized banana. But should you? I say add more toppings! For me? Peanut butter morsels and coconut! Yum!!DSC_0640 (1280x916)

    Banana topped with coconut all the way.  I’ve been in a coconutty mood lately.  There are other ways to describe my mood lately, but I’ll stop there.

    What if…WHAT IF…You baked bananas, peaches and apples together and topped it with honey and GRANOLA?!?  Holy razmataz!  I might do just that.

    they serve something similar to this at texas de brazil…but i think they use plaintains and fry them.  i like your baking version better 🙂  i’ve grilled mine on a grill before, incredibly messy, but so yummy!

  • Mmm, I’ve never baked bananas but I’ve had them in fancy desserts at restaurants. This looks so simple, yet healthy and I’m certain delicious. I’d add a scoop of froyo to it for good measure 😉

    I love baked bananas!! Right now, walnuts & chocolate chips, but that response is likely to change within the next minute! 🙂

    I would have baked bananas sliced into my soft serve with the above toppings…I want it all!:)

  • Caramelized anything is good…especially banana. 

    We have this traditional filipino dish Turon. It’s fried banana dessert. Basically it is banana, mixed with brown sugar and cinnamon and wrapped in egg roll wrapping. You can put more brown sugar on the outside of the wrapping if you want.

    You then fry it for the best taste or you can bake it (healthier version) using a cooling rack on top of a cookie sheet. Crunch outside and mushy caramelized banana on in the inside. Topped with ice cream….delicious!

  • This is such a GREAT idea! I have no idea why I’ve never thought of baking bananas. I would definitely have to top them with cinnamon & peanut butter. Delish! Might have to make one tonight. I love soft serve bananas- that’s one of my favorite desserts.

    Bananas are the BEST!!! 😀 I would definitely top mine with chocolate. And peanut butter. 🙂 Frozen bananas are the best! I just peel them, freeze them, and then take one out and top it with nut buttah. SO good! 😀
