The Friday Five: Divergent, Avicii, Sushi, Coconut Chicken, and GIFs!

1. Watching: My cousin Jackson and I read Divergent together last summer, so now that I’m up here, we had set a date to go see the move. We finally got around to it last night and oh boy it was SO good! Even though I had read the book, I was on the edge of my seat the entire two hours. I love the actors they chose and Four (actor Theo James) is a hunk! My aunt and I were like WOW, glad we came to this flick.

2. Listening to: Don’t you love when you really enjoy a song the very first time you hear it? Usually it takes a few listens for me to get into something new, but I was immediately a fan of Avicii’s “Addicted to You.”

3. Eating: This week I checked out Asian Imperial, a restaurant nearby that I had read raving reviews about. People seemed to be huge fans of their sushi  and I’ve had it bookmarked since last summer. The place is nothing special on the outside, but the interior wasn’t too shabby. The menu is huge, with all the standard Japanese and Chinese fare you’d expect, and the accompanying sushi list is pretty long too. As always, I started with a seaweed salad, which was a pretty generous serving. Yay for a huge dose of iodine!

I chose two rolls: the Alaskan (top) and the Angel Dragon (bottom). The Alaskan roll had salmon, avocado, and cucumber. The Angel Dragon had shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and mango, rolled in a soy wrap and topped with spicy king crab.

It was good, but nothing to write home about. I will say that I’d be open to trying their other rolls, as they all sound delicious.

4. Bookmarking: Chicken in Coconut Milk with Lemongrass. I bet this recipe packs a ton of flavor!

5. GIFs:

my family walking into, um, any food establishment

how i feel during sample saturdays at whole foods

basically what i think every sunday after all my marathon eating

anytime someone asks me if i’d ever run a full marathon

Ok , I now have a new priority this weekend; see Divergent!! I have been dying to go but haven’t made it. Clearly I need to get myself to the theatre ASAP.

Ow! Now I want to see that movie! Hahha- the gif about running a whole marathon cracked me up. There are days now where I think gosh…I want to try it again to see if I can way better since I majorly crashed at the end…and other days when I think that was TERRIBLE 😉

    • it’s really good! yes, i thought of you when i posted that. you are strong my friend. very strong. so proud of you!

I took Avory to see Divergent….And now I have recurring dreams of Theo James. He and Shailene Woodley have incredible chemistry. It was palpable. He hasn’t quite replaced Ryan Gosling for me (he is irreplaceable), but he’s now a close second. I need to see that movie again, I think. Also….I think I should try that chicken recipe too!

    • hahaha he’s SO cute. and i love them together too. agreed that RG is irreplaceable.

  • Biana Perez

Sushi looks delish!! I would probably only go see that movie because of the actor – hotness! Love avicci!! Have a fab weekend and see you in like 4 days!!

    • hotness is right, wait til you see him shirtless. hahah. yes, so soon!!! have a great weekend!

  • Nikki @ The Pink Growl

Parks & Rec GIFs are pretty awesome! I loved Divergent too…and even if I hated the movie I would see it again because THEO! DANG!

  • Shelby Hanchey

Boo to restaurants that score 98% like it but are nothing to write home about. Food is life people, so don’t highly rate sub-par sushi right!? Happy weekend, lady! 🙂

  • I ran one half marathon in my life and it was my first and last…..my body basically was like “please tell me do you hate me or something???” I also like didn’t really train for it and just went and ran it that probably was another reason for my agony. I make happy mistakes every night and they usually involve peanut butter snickers. Hope you have a great weekend girl!

    • hahah as i read this, i was making a happy mistake myself — eating white chocolate cadbury eggs. 🙂

  • Meg

i wanna go on a sushi date with you 😀

also.. i have to make that chicken 😀

  • Karen @ Runner Girl Eats

  • Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork

Your GIFs always crack me up. Seriously–that is an untapped talent that you need to exploit! 🙂

  • As always, I am loving the parks and rec gifs. I just rand my first and only marathon and could not agree more! I have had Divergent bookmarked for weeks and need to go see it soon.

  • Cate Hartnett

Yeah, my friends and I went to see Divergent twice – once in IMAX, so you can imagine how hot Theo looked. 🙂 he’s not at all how I imagined him when I read the book, but I’m okay with that.
