CSA Week 7 / Broiled Peaches with Goat Cheese & Honey

The further we get into the Spring season, the better the assortment of produce I receive from Gruber Farm. When I opened last week’s box, I thought “Woah, best week EVER.” Ehhh wrong! This week is even better. I’ve been really happy with Gruber Farm thus far because you get a good assortment of many different types of produce versus a few different things.DSC_0348 (1024x690)

Week 7:

  • red potatoes
  • yellow corn
  • onions
  • patty pan squash
  • a pumpkin? some sort of squash…
  • string beans
  • peaches (!!)
  • turnips

I always dig into the fruit first. It’s the most appealing to me and easiest to cook…or not cook at all. This time I cooked!

Broiled Peaches with Goat Cheese & Honey

This “recipe” doesn’t require drawn out steps; it’s easy as pie. But not a peach pie.

All you do is turn your broiler on low, slice or halve the peaches however you prefer, and pop them in the oven. Watch them!! Let them brown a little, but be careful – they will burn and you will end up with crunch. Not fun.

When they’re browned to your liking, remove them from the oven, drizzle them with honey, and top them with goat cheese crumbles and a sprinkle of cinnamon. image

Eat them while they’re warm!

Top them with ice cream. But don’t tell me about it. I’ve given up desserts.

This doesn’t count as dessert right?

What’s your favorite fruit-based dessert?

Why is there a phrase “easy as pie”? PIE IS NOT EASY TO MAKE.

Yum! Peaches are my favorite, and adding goat cheese can only make them better.

  • Livefortherun

Holy yes! this sounds unbelievable! Great app for a weekend party!

  • I’m all about fruit desserts. My husband usually does chocolate, so I go the other way. Pineapple upside down cake… I haven’t had it in about 5 years, but when it’s good, it’s amazing. Apple crumble and lemon meringue pie are also all-stars

    • I don’t think i’ve ever tried PUD cake. Can we call it that?

  • This looks amazing! Fruit and cheese is always such a great combination. My favourite fruit based dessert? Ahh, don’t make me choose! Maybe apple pie? Or strawberry rhubarb crisp? Or key lime pie? Ok, now I’m hungry!

    • I’ve never had strawb rhubarb crisp!! Must try.

I can’t keep up with you this week! Everytime I look you have a new post 🙂 Haha, I on the other hand have been slacking. This looks really good! I really love apple pie and banana pudding for fruit-based desserts. I have only made pies with store bought crust…makes it much simpler!

    • hehe, I always post 5x a week! 🙂 You’re making me want to bake a pie now!

  • oh no. why did you introduce me to that? ………I’m in trouble.

  • I just listened to a podcast with Alton Brown about grilling.  He said to grill peach slices and while on the grill, brush them with bourbon and honey. Then, serve over ice cream.  It sounds like the best thing ever and I will likely be trying it this weekend.  I want a local CSA!!!

  • Could possibly be one of the top summer combos! Not that I’ve tried it, but summer peaches are amazing and let’s be honest, anything with goat cheese is a WIN!

    • try it. i think you’ll like it a lot! and it’s so easy.

  • Elizabeth Hoskins

Yum!  I had a similar combination when I ate at Marche in Nashville – toast with baked pears, goat cheese & honey!  I will definitely be trying out this version!

  • The only warm peaches I’ve eaten have been in a warm peach cobbler (droool), but this looks like a healthy alternative.  Yum!

  • I love peaches and always buy a huge box of them from Sam’s Club! Definitely a summer staple in our house.

Your recipe with them sounds amazing–like something in a restaurant!

Favorite fruit-based dessert = either caramel apples or angel food cake with berries and whipped cream.

  • Yum! I once had a salad topped with grilled peaches and goat cheese. It was fantastic!

  • I think the phrase “easy as pie” is kind of like “piece of cake,” — they disappear really easily 😉

That’s not a dessert, that’s a warm fruit and cheese plate.

There’s nothing better than a pear and brown butter tart!

HOLY CRAP that combo sounds delicious!! i love peaches. and goat cheese. I could BATHE in goat cheese!!

i feel like i need to look into something like this because you seriously get awesome stuff in your box!!!

  • I have never broiled peaches, but I definitely need to try this.  They look so good!

  • goat cheese is my favorite. especially paired with sweet like this – I do this with apricots too, SO good.

and THANK YOU. I am always saying this about pie. maybe EATING the pie is what is easy??

  • Congrats on winning the Bacardi contest!! What a fantastic birthday present to you : )

Peaches look delish – they’d be excellent on a grill (if only my stupid apartment building allowed them).  & I could probably eat goat cheese on anything. Seriously. Now that I type it, I’m having a difficult time conjuring up a food item that wouldn’t be better smothered in chevre.

Have fun on your wee vaca 🙂

I wouldn’t count this as an actual dessert. It looks so good that I just pinned it to try.

  • This looks fantastic! I can’t wait to try.
