On Tuesday, I randomly had to go to Raleigh, for an interview of sorts. I’ll explain more when I can. My friend Eric, who I jokingly call Dad, because he is constantly giving Boding and me advice, joined me for the day. It turned out to be a lot of fun, and we both sortakindamaybe want to move to Raleigh.
We started the day at Collective, for a bagel & lox and some caffeine. I love their lattes with almond milk. Fanfreakingtastic.
On the drive up, it was imperative that we stop at the South of the Border. This place is amazing in the trashiest way. Please click that link to see just how bad it really is. There are these creepy animal statues galore, most of which require photographic evidence.
Here’s “Dad” with a weiner dog, slightly larger than his real-life pup, Copper.
I always jump on the jackalope. When do you ever get to sit on a jackalope? Photo not optional.
After I finished my business, it was time to play. Eric directed us to Tasty Beverage Company, a craft beer store. You can find a gazillion beers and drink while you browse. While there, I discovered two really cool beers. First up, Hell or High Watermelon Wheat Beer. It’s fermented a second time with watermelon and fresh watermelon juice is also added.
I’m a huge fan of Moscow Mules, so I was also really happy to find Crabbie’s alcoholic ginger beer. This is SO good. It’s got a strong ginger taste, but if that’s what you’re into, hunt this down.
For lunch, we went to Raleigh Times Bar. This place had not only a huge beer selection, but a great menu. Eric had a Cuban with roasted pork loin, Black Oak ham, gruyere, pickles, tomatoes, mustard and garlic aioli.
I had the daily special, a Zucchini & Black Bean Burger. It came with the garlic aioli as well, but I asked for their jalapeno avocado spread instead. Loved it.
When we left, the cutest store caught my eye. How can you resist a store where this is on display?
To prep for our 4-ish hour drive back to Charleston, we decided Red Bulls were necessary. Sugar free for me, Red (cranberry #Edition) for Dad. This also guaranteed a major dance session in the car.
Lastly, I made sure to wait to use the bathroom at the perfect spot — back at the South of the Border. I wanted to tell Pedro adios as the sun set. Ha.
Ever been to Raleigh? I thought everyone was so friendly and I want to go back and see more of the city!
