My Favorite Healthy Snacks

I’ve mentioned it before – I really love snacks. Lots of little meals > 3 big meals. Here are the snacks I most often eat.

1. Greek yogurt. It’s packed with protein, is rich and creamy, and full of flavor. My favorite brands, by far, are Fage and Chobani.. My absolute favorite is Fage’s Cherry 0%. I don’t typically like cherry-flavored foods, but this is the jam.

I also really like their Blueberry 0%.

Of all of the Chobani flavors, Pineapple 2% is the one I buy the most. Just like their Passion fruit flavor, it’s very tropical.

Surprisingly, I love their Lemon 0%. It’s really refreshing!

2. Luna bars. Let’s be honest, these things are “healthier” candy bars. They’re made with 70% organic ingredients and contain many essential vitamins and nutrients. Iced Oatmeal Raisin is ridiculously good.

I’ve noticed that people either love the Iced Oatmeal Raisin or the S’mores flavor, but not both. Weird, right? My other top flavors are Peanut Honey Pretzel, Chocolate Dipped Coconut, and Blueberry Bliss.

3. Nuts! I prefer almonds and walnuts, but put me in front of a can of cashews or peanuts and I won’t deny them. First and foremost, I like plain ol’ nuts in their natural state. I buy them in bulk from either Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s.

4. Fruit. I love almost all fruit in its natural state. Bananas, blueberries, and strawberries are my favorite. I’ll also never say no to pineapple. Have I ever told you I briefly lived in Hawaii with my mom when I was 3? Yep. Check this out. Someone was eating a lot of pineapple in 1987.

5. Back to the food. In high school, chips were my weakness. Nowadays, I reach for popchips. They’re not baked or fried, but instead air-popped. They have the best flavors and are so crunchy. I have little to no self control around a bag of Barbecue or Salt & Pepper popchips.

Their newest flavor, Sweet Potato, is quite different because it’s sweet, but is absolutely delicious.

Have you guys seen the new tortilla popchips? I’m dying to try them!

6. String cheese. I hadn’t had string cheese in years until very recently when I visited my grandparents. I forgot how convenient of a snack this is. And it’s cheese. Come on. We all love it. These bad boys are only 50 calories a pop (stick?) and, well, they’re fun to play with.

Embrace your inner 10-year-old and buy a bag of these.

7. Cottage cheese + jam. Sorry if you just threw up after reading that. It’s a great combo, I swear! Cottage cheese packs a punch of protein, and if you buy a lower sodium or low-fat kind, is a great post-workout snack. Top it with some jam for extra flavor. Just try it! +

8. Carrots + hummus. Sabra’s Roasted Garlic hummus is the best! +

9. Avocado + toast. It’s one of the most simple, yet delicious, snacks I eat. Just top a piece of toast with a couple avocado slices, drizzle with honey, top with salt & pepper, eat munch away.

10. COOKIES! Of course! Can’t stop, won’t stop. These aren’t healthy, but I could never leave them off my list of favorite snacks. ;)

What’s your favorite snack?

Are you team Fage or Chobani?

Favorite Luna bar flavor?

  • mariafalls

Yes, Fage Cherry! Fage is so much thicker than Chobani, which is why it’s my favorite.

Chips are my weakness. Popchips are awesome, but I’m also a fan of Pretzel Crisps, which are a decent snack if I don’t end up mindlessly eating the whole bag. It happens though.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

i love the pretzel crisps too! which flavor is your favorite? i just tried the jalapeno the other day. YUM! i kinda love how the flavored powder gets all over your fingertips and you just have to lick it off. :)

      • mariafalls

Yes! The jalapeno flavor is amazing, but I also love the Cinnamon Toast for something salty-sweet. Did you know that they do chocolate peppermint flavored ones for the holidays? I die.
And yes, I want to eat the cheesy powder with a spoon.

        • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

they have a cinnamon flavor? holy crap. i’m in trouble. these better go on sale soon. i have seen the choc peppermint ones but never tried them. i was too afraid that i’d buy them and eat the whole bag in one sitting. TEACH ME SELF CONTROL. no joke, one day at work, we got to the end of a bag of chips and i was just eating the reside. what is wrong with me! haha

          • mariafalls

It’s okay. I lose all self control when it comes to chips. You make me feel normal.

  • http://betterwithsprinklesblog.com/ Sam

I’m definitely a huge fan of S’mores Luna bars – amazing. Haven’t tried to chocolate dipped coconut but it’s definitely on my list.

And I’m with you on the cottage cheese + jam combo. Sounds kinda gross, tastes like amazing.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

sounds kinda gross, looks even grosser, tastes amazing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=9343602 Kristin Twigg Darhower

Team Fage!  I don’t like blueberry anything (generally), but I love their Blueberry Acai flavor.  Pineapple Chobani is the only one I really care for of the Chobani variety, but I do kinda like the new chocolate/vanilla Chobani Champions.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

i haven’t had the new choc/vanilla chobani! must try!

  • http://lisalately.com/ Lisa

Oh heck yes on jam + cottage cheese (blended cottage cheese is best) and avocado on toast is awesome, especially with an egg, I’m basically loving on all these snacks.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

wait…do you mean blended as in mixed with something else? or blended like in a blender? this may be a dumb question….haha.

      • Lauren

Not dumb, I want to know this too!!! I’ve always just had jam with cottage cheese, like spooned together lol

      • http://lisalately.com/ Lisa

Haha, definitely not dumb at all! You blend the cottage cheese first, like in a blender and then add the jam on top. For some reason I just prefer the texture of the blended cottage cheese hah!

  • http://cleaneatingchelsey.com/ Cleaneatingchelsey

i am a definite chobani girl! And I love sabra too -but my favorite is roasted pine nut

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

the roasted pine nut is also great!

  • Livefortherun

Did you go through my pantry? My favs here! And pineapple is my favorite fruit. How freaking cute are you?! Look at dat pineapple belly.

Sabra hummus is boss, don’t go cheap there.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

yes, i went through your pantry! i noticed it has been well stocked during your pregnancy. haha just kidding. sabra is deeeeeeefffffinitely worth spending the extra dollar.

  • Megan

Why haven’t I tried honey on my avocado toast before?!? Mmm. I just picked up the Sabra garlic hummus yesterday! So good.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

you tried my avocado dip, right? i am pretty sure i brought it to cameron’s mom’s house…

  • http://www.followingcs.blogspot.com/ Courtney

I normally go Fage but just bought some Chobani to try. They didn’t have pineapple though, that looks yummy! We love pop chips here too, did you know you can buy them at Costco in bulk?  We do!  And avocado toast? all the time.  Adorable picture of you as a 3 year old.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

find the pineapple next time! i didn’t know you could buy them in bulk at costco. i don’t have a card, but maybe i should find someone that does!

      • http://www.followingcs.blogspot.com/ Courtney

OMG, did I really just admit I buy chips in bulk? ha!

  • Erica Sorkin

oh my gosh! Mini Christina! So darn cute! Good list- I enjoy a lot of the same snacks. My favorites are definitely Greek yogurt, veggies and hummus, fruit and rice cakes with peanut or almond butter. team chobani allllll the way!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

rice cakes! another good one. i was going to add peanut/almond butter to this list!

  • http://www.thenondairyqueen.com/ Sarena

I agree with your snack choices! YUM! I am seriously loving on celery and peanut butter lately. I never had it as a kid, but for some reason, now, it’s totally hitting the spot! I buy that pineapple yogurt for the boys…it looks so good! It makes me really miss yogurt treats!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

are you putting raisins on the celery? like ants on a log? :)

  • Laura Street

Snacks are probably my #1 weakness. I can’t get enough of the junk food :) Never heard of PopChips… I will have to check these out ASAP!! String cheese is always a favorite snack, and cheese and crackers :) Great tips! Thanks!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

      find the popchips!! you must!

  • http://twitter.com/yesiwantcake Katie Unger

Oh heavens that picture of you and the baby bikini?! I’m dying.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

my stomach is the same size as the rest of my body. i look bloated, but i assure you, it was full of cookies…or pineapple.

  • http://twitter.com/AHealthySlice Brittany

I love Chobani 2% cherry and 2%Mango (not a big fan of 0%), but I must admit that Fage is pretty creamy and dreamy.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

      i’m definitely more a 2% fan too!

  • Kerr

I love all these things and now I need a snack!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

i always need snacks. i feel like every 5 minutes i’m like “okay, what can i eat now?” my coworker who sits next to me is probably thinking “um, how is she hungry again?”

  • http://www.lauralikesdesign.com Laura @ LauraLikesDesign

    Lots to say!
    1. I love plain Fage but prefer Chobani’s fruit yogurts. Favorite Chobani flavors: pineapple, apple cinnamon, lemon, peach

    2. I agree–Luna bars are a glorified candy bar. But heck, with all those vitamins, I often eat two! ;) Favorite flavor is the coconut one…okay, and the peppermint stick one. So good!

    3. I’m not a huge nut person. Almonds are my favorite if I had to choose. I hate cashews yet loved them as a kid.

    4. Favorite fruit is raspberries or watermelon!

    5. Oh my gosh, that photo of you as a child just made my day. That better be in your wedding slideshow. Believe me, I’ll know if you forget to add it, because I will be at your wedding.

    6. I love popchips! and string cheese! Pretend these sentences are grammatically correct, okay? I love string cheese but not really many other kinds of cheeses. Speaking of which, my friends and I have a “no-go” list of foods we won’t eat…I’m going to have to do a blog post about mine. It’s rather embarrassing.

    7. Never tried jam in cottage cheese, but I like fruit in mine. As long as it isn’t canned fruit….ew.

    8. I love avacados and guac! I could eat guac plain with a spoon–so good!

    9. Cookies! Yes! Favorite kind are chocolate chip for sure!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

I love your list comments! They’re amazing. The peppermint stick Luna is another fave. I was so close to adding that. I would be psyched if you were at my wedding. That would be hilarious if we hadn’t met yet but I invited you anyway. That would be really fun to watch you introduce yourself to everyone as my blog friend turned IRL friend! Oh, do a no-go list of foods post and I will too!!

      • http://www.lauralikesdesign.com Laura @ LauraLikesDesign

        hahaha that would be hilarious!
Okay, I’ll definitely do the no-go list in the near future!

  • http://twitter.com/1healthmunchkin Chelsea A

I’m team Chobani by default because I’ve never tried Fage! I’m obsessed with their black cherry flavour.

My favourite snack is Greek yogurt + granola. I love that it’s so filling!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

you must try fage next time you are in the states!!! or do they have it in canada? get some!

  • http://profiles.google.com/reginachoy1 Regina Choy

i only eat Fage plain, cherry (which i also didn’t think i’d like but i LOVE), blueberry and honey. so very creamy! peanut honey pretzel and peppermint bark are my favorite luna bars. and i cannot understand what is appealing about cottage cheese at all. blah!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

haha love your honesty on the cottage cheese. it is a freaky food, i know!

  • Mary Krulia

I’m actually team Yoplait! They now have 100 calorie Greek Yogurt – and it’s tasty!

Favorite Luna bar is Chocolate Peppermint Stick…I love it so much I haven’t really tried any other kind but I will grab the Oatmeal next time!

The cottage cheese and avocado snacks sound very interesting and definitely down my alley. Will try!

Cheddar Pop Chips might be my favorite snack!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

ooooh i think i remember you telling me about the yoplait greek yogurt. must try it!

  • http://www.peaceloveandoats.com/ Katie @ Peace Love & Oats

My favorite chobani flavors are peach and pineapple! And I Loooooove fage, they sell it at Trader Joe’s so I get it all the time!

  • http://itsalittlebitofrain.blogspot.com/ Audra

I love all that, and I will add cottage cheese to my list too. And apples topped with almond butter – yum!

I’ve never thought of avocado on toast, and I’m ashamed that I didn’t think of such a great idea before!

  • Flecksofgreen

Team Chobani all the way! The chocolate dipped coconut Luna bar is my fav! My fav snack would have to be peanut butter and banana on anything! Lol

  • Tag

I love the lemon Chobani in my smoothie w/frozen blueberries! Other than than, I really watch the sugars on the yogurts when deciding which to get. Some are far too sweet for me. I love the Chobani strawberry/banana and the Fage Mango Guanabana!! (only one I have tried)

One of my favorite snacks is greek yogurt (plain) topped w/salsa and scooped with Beanitos or some healthy tortilla chips. CANNOT.GET.ENOUGH.  I even have my husband eating it as  a snack, he packed it for tailgating last weekend (WIN!)

  • http://poshpavement.blogspot.com/ Sierra

Almonds, Green Yogurt, Whole Wheat Pretzels from TJ’s with hummus, apples, string cheese, fiber cereal…love snacks.

I’m team Fage, but I’m not about to turn down a Chobani.

I used to like Luna Bars, especially the Chai flavor (do they even make it anymore?), but I haven’t had them in about 6 years. I will have to try the peanut pretzel one because I love that PB Pretzel Clif Mojo Bar.

  • http://mybizzykitchen.com/ Biz

I am team Chobani all the way – I have the pineapple left to try, but I think the vanilla chocolate chunk is my favorite. :D   Aw, you looked so cute at 3! :D

  • http://thegrassskirtblog.com/ Erin @ The Grass Skirt

I love Luna  bars!  My favorite is definitely chocolate dipped coconut, but I also like the white chocolate macadamia (even though sometimes it has an aftertaste).  I’m pretty sure that you were the most adorable little girl ever. :)

  • Cori

I love cottage cheese and fruit spread.  So yummy! Oh and carrots and sabra hummus are another one of my faves. Great snack choices!

  • http://thisitalianfamily.wordpress.com/ Rach

Oh my dear gracious, could you be cuter?! Look at your little face and hair and everything! So precious! And girl, I love fruit. It is so my friend! :)

  • http://www.cottercrunch.com lindsay cotter

my husband, the king of lemon bars and all things lemon, does not like the chobani lemon. Weirdo! So i froze it then used it in a smoothie to make a lemon icy. GENIUS!

  • http://atasteofbulmer.blogspot.com/ Kaitlin @ A Taste of Bulmer

I actually love BOTH the S’mores Luna Bar and the Iced Oatmeal Raisin Luna Bar! Iced Oatmeal Raisin is more of a morning snack, while S’mores is that lovely chocolate fix I need come 3pm at work.

  • Meg
