New Favorite Foods

I love updating you guys on new foods that I’ve scouted out or become a fan of.

I ended a sentence in a preposition. Sorry! It would have sounded awkward otherwise, and though I usually epitomize the word awkward, I try to keep my writing a little less, um, weird. Onto the food!

1. Blue Diamond Salt ‘N Vinegar almonds.

Not only will these satisfy your salty craving, you get a dose of protein and fiber. They’re very delicious without being a sodium overload.

2. Publix all natural salsas. Publix Deli Salsa

Rachel and I picked up a tub of the medium salsa on Saturday. It’s really good! The ingredient list is clean, it’s got a great flavor, and isn’t too chunky. Chunky salsa is nasty.

3. La Croix Peach-Pear sparkling water.

They now sell this canned at Target! It’s definitely  my new favorite La Croix flavor. On another note, I’m still not over how awful the Coconut flavor was. Blech.

Let me tell you a secret: Sometimes if I don’t like a bottle of wine, I add a bit of sparkling water to it. Then bam! I’ve got a tastier, more refreshing glass of happiness.

4. Fiber One 90 Calorie Chocolate Chip Cookies

They’re soft, pack 5 grams of fiber, and contain only 8 grams of sugar. It’s a treat! I highly suggest nuking one in the microwave for about 15 seconds. Mmm!

5. Tropicana Trop50 Raspberry with Green Tea. IMAG2599

Amanda and I used this to mix with our vodka on the boat the other day. It’s only 50 calories per 8 ounces – a great mixer for a lower calorie beverage. Oh, and say hello to Svedka, my favorite vodka. It’s fairly inexpensive and very smooth.

6. Zone Perfect Perfectly Simple nutrition bars. Peanut Crunch BarToasted Coconut BarCranberry Almond Bar

I was recently sent some samples of these bars and am so grateful! Upon opening the wrapper of the first bar I tried, I thought they looked just like Larabars. They’re SO much better. They’re quite dense, but more nutty and flavorful, with a short list of ingredients.  My favorite was the Cranberry Almond.

7. Buddy Fruits.image

Ok, ok. this is definitely glorified fruit puree, but I can be a sucker for cute branding/packaging. I’m every marketer’s dream come true. But hey, moms! Don’t you think your kiddos would much rather get their fruit and vegetable requirements through these? Adorbs.

For the record, the only reason I tried these was because you can get the applesauce packets in the kids meals at Chick-fil-A. True story.

8. Jazz Apples.

These aren’t a new find, but more of a re-discovery thanks to Boding. We found these at Target of all places. They’re the best apples! Gotta love one of God’s most precious gifts to us – fresh fruit!

What new food products have you recently discovered?

Tell me your favorite a)packaged good and b)fresh fruit or vegetable.

Oh no I forgot my apples! Please eat them!

      I can handle that.

So much to love in this post! I’m addicted to Blue Diamond wasabi and soy almonds. Have you tried them? The love is so strong that I become anxious when they’re not stocked in my cupboard. Seriously. I haven’t tried the salt and vinegar flavor yet, but I’m thinking maybe I should stay away. There’s no portion control once a can has been popped open. ;)

I’ve been known to splash plain sparkling water into wine or other adult bevs, but flavored varieties sound more fun! Thanks for the tip! :) And I agree with you about the Zone bars; they’re really good! I’ve tried the coconut and peanut flavors, but I’m still searching for the cranberry.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

I have had those almonds! They’re so good too. Try the cranberry bar — it’s definitely the best.

I’ve never seen those salt and vinegar almonds before but they sound good! I wonder if they make sour cream and onion almonds? Those would be amazing!

I recently discovered maple flakes, which are basically just dehydrated maple syrup. They’re a fun oatmeal topping!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

sour cream and onion almonds would be so good! never heard of maple flakes. that’s neat!

I love updating you guys on new foods that I’ve scouted out or “of which I have become a fan.”  :-p

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

hahah i know, but doesn’t it sound awkward? eww :)

i’m so hooked on the peanut butter chocolate fiber one brownies. i haven’t spotted the chocolate chip cookies, yet…but i’ll be definitely keeping an eye out.

love it when you let us in on new foods. i’ve still been trying to locate those soft teddy grahams you talked about a few months ago!

  • Jen @nutcaseinpoint

I gave tempeh a go awhile back and it was a massive failure. BUT, I tried again yesterday and fell in love!
Favorite packaged good: sunflower and/or almond butter. Yum to the tenth power!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

i can’t believe i’ve never tried sunflower butter. what brand you buy?

  • http://dilloftheday.wordpress.com/ em @ living & learning

ahhh i love the fiberone peanut butter brownies, I haven’t tried the cookies yet, but I will be picking up a package next time I’m at the store … YUM!

I also like to use crystal light of the MIOs and mix with water as a mixer for my beverages. That way, the only calories & sugar intake are coming from the alcohol!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

you just reminded me that i forgot to mention the mojito crystal light on this list!

I usually buy pink lady apples (so posh, no?), but this week I got honeycrisp. Very sweet, but delicious. I am also really into carrots. It’s all about crispy textures for me right now.

I got about 3 dozen grapefruits at a farm stall a while back too….so working my way through those.

This weekend I threw a bunch of watermelon in the blender and used it with fresh squeezed lime as a mixer in my tequila.  It was so delicious and refreshing.

I haven’t seen the peach-pear LaCroix, but now I’m on the hunt.  My favorite is the grapefruit, or pamplemousse if your feeling French and fancy.

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

that drink sounds delicious! the grapefruit is my other favorite. if you’re feeling French and fancy, ha!! so true.

  • http://prettyface59.blogspot.com/ Jenny

Oh how I love la Croix- and I agree on the Coconut flavor. BULP. Also, the lime flavor now tastes like Alka Seltzer to me. I stick with grapefruit, and need to try this kind. Also I want to try the Fiber One cookies and salt n vinegar almonds. I LOVE salt and vinegar and don’t care if I stink up my office and people hate me.

Trader Joe’s is new to me so I swung by the other day and picked up a few things. One of those things were Spicy Flax tortilla chips- Can’t remember the exact name- there’s a photo on one of my recent blog entries- but they were really good!! And filling!

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

yeah, i stick with grapefruit. the berry grossed me out also. i really wanted to like it!!!

  • Catherine

love this post! Def wanna try those salt & vinegar almonds!! :)

  • Elizabeth Hoskins

I’ve been wanting to try to the Coconut La Croix, but not anymore, thanks for the warning!!  That salsa looks amazing!  What’s better than a fresh / fruity salsa in the summertime?! :-)

    • http://www.hungrymeetshealthy.com/ Christina

      salsa & guacmole = summer!!

  • http://lauravirginia.me/ Laura @ Meet Virginia

Blue Diamond makes cinnamon and brown sugar almonds that are the bomb.  I could eat the whole container in one sitting, so I have to buy the pre-portioned little bags.  I want to try those Fiber One cookie things!

  • http://southerncurlsandpearls.blogspot.com/ Caitlin C

This is making me so hungryyyy…. I want the chocolate chip brownie… and the salt-n-vinegar almonds, and apples, and… everything, basically. Yum!

  • Alex @ therunwithin

Jazz apples are the bomb, I am a fuji fan as well! I am loving sugar free hawaiian punch packets to add to water. They are getting me through my no diet soda phase!

  • http://thegrassskirtblog.com/ Erin@TheGrassSkirt

Everyone keeps talking about these Buddy Fruits.  I need to try them!   According to their website, they are sold at Walmart.  I’ll be going there tomorrow. :)

  • http://thisitalianfamily.wordpress.com/ Rach

Jazz apples?? I’ve never heard of them. But it sure looks nice and juicy and that’s how I like my apples! :)

  • http://twitter.com/countmycupcakes Brittany Dahn

I just bought that same Mango Peach salsa this weekend too. SO good!

  • http://caffeinatedrunner.wordpress.com/ Kailey

love when you do post like this because I didn’t even know that Fiber One had the cookie dough variety! sounds delicious :)
i’m obsessed with Trader Joe’s Buffalo Chicken Meatballs – they are EPIC

  • http://thesmartkitchenblog.com/ Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen

I’m glad you pointed out the preposition thing. I totally would have had to otherwise.

My roommate–who stole my food–was obsessively in love with the Coconut La Croix. Lesson we can learn? Do not trust people who think that tastes good.

  • http://lisalately.com/ Lisa

I love making martinis with iced tea, soo good! I drink way to many of them on the weekends. Not great the day after, but love them at the time!

  • Amanda Helton

I use the buddy fruits for a pre work out snack.  It helps to boost my energy and they are great to eat in the car on the way to the gym.

  • Caroline Knight

I almost bought the coconut along with the peach-pear today.  Glad I didn’t!  But, I still kind of feel like I need to know what it tastes like. . . LaCroix+wine?!  Genius!  Trying that ASAP.

  • Coconut Rules!

Was doing an internet search on La Croix and stumbled across this site. She’s totally wrong on the Coconut flavor. It’s delicious. I just bought some tonight.
